How Much Car Insurance Do I Need?

Sunday, 14 March, 2010

Yes, yes, I know, every penny counts, especially nowadays! But the few dollars you may try to save on your car insurance bill may cost you dearly in the long run.

Let’s start with the basics. In the State of Texas you are REQUIRED to have at least liability coverage on your vehicle. Liability insurance is that portion of your insurance which pays for the property and personal injury damages of someone you hit if a collision is your fault. In Texas the minimum amount of liability insurance that you are required to carry to cover for bodily injuries you may cause is $20,000.00 per person and $40,000.00 per incident. You are also required to carry $15,000.00 worth of insurance to cover any property damage you may cause.

So let me ask you this, have you seen a typical hospital bill lately? Have you seen some of the fancy cars people drive in this city? If those minimum limits sound a bit low, its because they are. In a time when any stay in a hospital is likely to cost tens of thousands of dollars and a new Toyota (not a Lexus mind you, but a Toyota) can cost upward of $25,000.00, you should seriously think about asking your insurance agent for more than these minimum limits. I think you will find the cost of increasing your coverage to $100,000.00 per person and $300,000.00 per incident surprisingly small. Your coverage for property damage will increase as well. Of course, as an alternative, you could just make sure you always drive behind vehicles that are at least ten years old!

Another type of coverage is called Personal Injury Protection, or PIP. This coverage will pay for your medical expenses and up to 80% of your lost wages in the event you are in an accident. Usually, the minimum amount of PIP coverage is $2,500.00, but again, it does not cost much to increase these policy limits. Again, given skyrocketing medical expenses and the importance of keeping up your flow of income, I suggest PIP coverage in at least the amount of $5,000.00.

In my opinion, the most important type of “optional” coverage anyone can purchase is Uninsured Motorists (“UIM”) coverage. This coverage will “step into the shoes” of someone who causes an accident if they are at fault and do not have any insurance. In my practice, you would be amazed at the number of times I see people involved in accidents who do not have insurance. Not only is this illegal, but it is irresponsible as well. UIM insurance has another benefit as well. It also acts to protect you in the event you are struck by someone who is underinsured. For example, let’s say you are struck in a collision and sustain serious personal injuries. Furthermore, let’s say the person who caused the collision only has minimum policy limits. In this scenario, your UIM coverage will “fill in the blanks” and will act to increase the liability limits of the “underinsured” driver beyond $20,000.00.

Of course, you may also wish to purchase comprehensive and collision insurance as well. This insurance will pay for the repair of your vehicle if you cause an accident, or if your car is stolen, etc. If you are financing your vehicle, your bank will require this coverage. You may have an option of the size of your deductible. How much risk you can afford to take in this regard is a question of personal preference.

There are also other types of optional coverage that your insurance company may offer. These may include car rental insurance, glass breakage, or death indemnity. While some of this coverage is quite inexpensive, others may not be worth the expense. I would certainly make sure you had the “basics” (liability, PIP and UIM) in place before you started thinking about these “bells and whistles.”

So remember folks, even if you are trying to watch your budget, be careful about cutting back too far on your insurance bill. Insurance is one of those things that you hope you never need, but you are darn happy you have it when you need it!

Life Insurance For Long And Short Term Planning

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

Life Insurance as we know it has been around for hundreds of years. As society evolves, so do the many forms of Life Insurance. Today there are various kinds of Life Insurance, from simple Term Insurance, Whole Life, Universal Life, Joint First to Die, Joint Last to Die, Guaranteed to Issue (No Medical), Funeral plans, & the list goes on. People purchase life insurance for many reasons. It is the epitome of an unselfish purchase, because it is one of the few things in life which the purchaser, will never personally use. It is for the beneficiary. People have various types of challenges in their life. When it comes to financial problems, there are both short term and long term problems. This article will discuss the role of Life Insurance and how it can help alleviate both problems.

There are two monumental occurrences in everyone’s life. The day they are born and the day they die. As we go through childhood and grow into adulthood, a person begins to take on various responsibilities in life. They buy their first home, get married, have children, raise a family, perhaps start their own business, whatever it may be, these things impose financial responsibilities. For most people, this is when their financial obligation is the greatest; the first mortgage is usually much greater than the down payment. From the responsibility to provide food and shelter for family to covering a line of credit to start a business, can represent an additional mortgage. Whatever the case may be, a person’s debt is usually greatest when in early adulthood. As people get older, the family grows, and moves on. A mortgage gets paid down and eventually paid off. The business becomes profitable and hopefully pays off its obligations. Individuals make investments in planning for retirement, and ideally, the financial responsibility decreases over time. Retirement on the other hand is another issue.

So, when it comes to financial planning, one of the key components is the proper use of Life Insurance. Life insurance purchased at an early age is really inexpensive. Term Life Insurance, is insurance designed to give you the maximum amount of coverage for the least cost. For example, a 30 year old non smoking male, in average health will pay around $25 per month for $500,000 of coverage for a 10 year term. So, if this individual earning $40,000 per year, had a $200,000 mortgage, and $20,000 of consumer debt, upon his death, his beneficiary would have $280,000 in tax free money. When you break it down, that would buy his spouse, a 7 year readjustment fund of $40,000 per year to draw on. Fairly inexpensive in cost for what the end result could provide. At the end of the original 10 year term, age 40, the coverage would automatically renew for another 10 year period, at a pre-established rate. It could be reduced or discontinued if the person no longer required the coverage. It is used for the so called “short term” challenges.

So, why Universal Life Insurance also? The long term problem everyone faces is final expenses. Let’s face it, we are all going to die one day. How much we have left, or how much we leave behind is unknown until that time comes. So, why place the burden on your family to take care of those obligations? A simple $50,000 Universal Life Insurance permanent plan, would cost approximately the same amount as the Term plan mentioned previously.

Why purchase both plans at a young age? Fairly simple; we tend to be more healthy when we are younger, thus the cost of the insurance is less. So, back to the example of the 30 year old male and the $500,000 of Term Insurance. We all know what will happen at death, but what if he lives longer than the Term Insurance is in force? Probably, over time, the mortgage gets paid off, lines of credit get eliminated, investments are made and the need for temporary or term insurance is no longer valid. The small Universal Life Insurance policy will always be there to take care of final expenses. If a person’s health takes a turn for the worse, as they age, coverage may no longer be available for ongoing permanent needs. The Universal Life Insurance policy also has some provisions built into it, whereby money grows tax free in an investment account and increases the death benefit. Should a financial circumstance require the need for access to money, an individual could withdraw some money from the policy. The option of putting it back, or not, at a later date exists.

How Insurance Can Protect The Risks Of Life

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

When you are a young adult and begin to have your own children, you should begin thinking about and considering the option of life and retirement insurance. Life and retirement insurance plans vary in type and are very essential to protect and manage the risks of everyday life that we encounter. Having these insurance plans can mean the financial protection for you and your family and are very essential later in life. Getting life insurance is a large step in maintaining a financial balance in your later years and when you leave your loved ones behind while retirement insurance maintains your financial stability throughout your entire lifetime.

There are two main types of life insurance plans available, term and permanent. Term insurance plans are pretty much like pure insurance, in which there is no investment element involved. Permanent insurance is basically cash value insurance that comes in many categories such as whole life, universal life, accidental death, endowments, and limited pay. Even when you live an everyday ordinary life with no chills and thrills, there are still risks we encounter.

Such things as car accidents and robberies, and pretty much any unseen occurrence are all risks that could claim your life. Though we can’t be sure if we are going to survive from one day to the next, we can invest in life insurance to make sure that our loss isn’t both physical and financial to our families. You will not fear leaving your family as much when you know they will be taken care of.

Retirement insurance comes in several types. There are IRA’s, Social Security Insurance, 401(K) plans, and pensions. It is also a back up plan for you and your family when you retire. Building up through the years you work, you will receive different amounts each month depending on what type of retirement insurance you have.

Retirement insurance doesn’t protect you from having to retire, but protects you from having to lose your wages when you retire. When we retire, our bills and unforeseen costs don’t retire and we must be well equipped to handle these costs. This insurance actually provides you with the management of your post-retirement life functions. Having the money to continue living as if you were still employed is essential.

You never know if you may need senior care when you get older and your retirement plans will ensure that you are able to afford it. Life and retirement insurance plans aren’t going to protect the unforeseen from happening. They are not going to keep you around forever, either. However, they will ensure that your family can manage life without you.

If you leave small children or even just a spouse behind, you want to know that they will still be taken care of and able to handle life as if you were still contributing to the finances. You don’t want to allow your family to lose you and financial stability at once. Though it may be uncomfortable to think about your death, either untimely or natural, you want to make sure that you prepare your family for a life without you.

Who Should Buy Term Life Insurance?

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

There are a wide range of life insurance products that are floating in the market. Choosing the right life insurance policy involves assessing your particular situation and evaluating the right policy for you. It is imperative to choose the right life insurance that fits your bill or which can be customized to suit your particular needs.

Unlike whole life insurance, term life insurance is purchased to cover a limited term period. Term life pays the insured sum only when the insured dies within the time span of the policy. Term life policies do not accrue any cash value. So if you live past the length of the policy, you won’t receive any money. It is also important to understand that premiums for term life policies may not be fixed, and may increase from time to time. To avoid this, be sure to look for a guaranteed level premium term life insurance policy. These policies guarantee a level premium throughout the term period.

Advantages of a Term Life Insurance

Term life insurance covers the maximum insurance for your money. It can be beneficial for those families that have more financial obligations than current assets. Here are some of the advantages of a term insurance:

Affordable
Term life insurance offers the most affordable premiums against high death benefits.

Simple
Term life insurance is the most simple life insurance product available in the market.

Competitive Pricing
Since term life policies are simple in nature, they can be easily compared on the basis of price and features. This makes term life insurance an appealing commodity in a very competitive market.

Flexibility
Term Life policies may include “renew ability” and “convertibility” options. The renew ability feature enables you to renew your term policy at the end of the term, without having to undergo a medical exam. A convertible feature allows you to convert your term life policy into an equivalent whole life policy, which accrues cash value, should you feel the need to switch to a permanent policy.

Waiver of premium
There is an additional optional feature called “waiver of premium”, which means that in the event of your inability to pay premiums due to circumstances stipulated in the term life insurance contract, the insurance company will waive payments for a stipulated time. However, this feature comes with an extra charge.

Short Term Coverage to Suit Your Needs
Term life is suitable for short term coverage. If your mortgage can be paid up in ten years you may want to choose a term policy for ten years. Most people do not envisage requiring life insurance in their senior years, so a term life policy makes sense for short term financial planning.

Deciding If a Term Life Insurance Policy is Right for You
Deciding the right life insurance policy is a very important step in securing your family’s future. If you are looking for a low cost, budget friendly life insurance plan, choosing a term life insurance policy would be your best option. Moreover, term life insurance is a good choice for people on fixed incomes and with a growing family. If you have a mortgage, educational loans, estate taxes or other liabilities, your sudden death would place an overwhelming financial burden on your family. Term life insurance provides high death benefits at the most affordable rates. This is why term life policies are the most popular life insurance policy. You should determine the amount of life insurance coverage that enables your family to clear all debts and provide a tidy some for their future. You may want to include college funds for your children in your coverage.

Here is a quick check-list that can help you to decide if a low cost term life insurance policy is right for you:

* If you’re on a budget and cannot afford a very high premium.
* If you are young, and in good health. You can take advantage of low premium rates.
* If you are looking for a simple, straight-forward, low cost life insurance plan to protect your beneficiaries.

Most people need life insurance and term life is suitable for all stages of life. Term life policies offer a cheap option to suit your needs. Term life is also easy to purchase. Saturday, 13 March, 2010

Life insurance is great for individuals that have a family, dependents and earn the most income to support their family. Life is unpredictable and it is important to ensure your family and loved ones are taken care of financially in case anything happens to you.

When shopping for life insurance in South Carolina, searching online and using the internet’s resources are a great way to educate yourself on life insurance basics, shop and compare quotes for the best life insurance policy for you. There are three different types of life insurance policies – universal life insurance, cheap whole life insurance and cheap term life insurance.

Universal Life Insurance – combines life insurance with savings. Insurers are able to have the benefits of term life insurance and combine that with tax-deferred interest accumulating savings account. Sometimes you may not even have to pay premiums during the entire policy. If your money to pay the death benefit and other costs accumulates in the tax-deferred savings portion of your policy, then premiums may not be required to keep the policy in force.

Cheap Whole Life Insurance – this type of policy will cover you for your entire life. Your death benefit and premium generally remain the same. Term Life Insurance

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

I’ve got a question for you. Aside from your computer, what’s an expensive item that gives you a lot more now yet costs a lot less than it did ten years ago? Give up? It’s a term life insurance policy.

Today a term life insurance policy cost about one third less than it did a decade ago. What is the best way that you can take advantage of this information? Read this article and find out.

Obviously, if you don’t own any insurance, now is the time to get a policy. But what if you already have life insurance? What should you do?

If your health is still good you should look into what a replacement policy would cost. You might be very pleasantly surprised.

Of course you won’t want to cancel your old policy until you’re approved for a new one and made your first premium payment, but if you are approved your savings can be significant.

Here’s what I mean. Let’s say that in 2000 you or your significant other was a thirty year old male and purchased a twenty year level term policy with a half a million dollar death benefit. In other words the beneficiaries would receive a payout of half a million dollars if the policy owner dies before 2020. However, if after the twenty years he’s still alive and kicking the policy would expire and no one would receive anything.

About ten years ago the premium for that policy would have been about four hundred fifty dollars a year. Today, if the same person, who’s now forty years old, is still in good health he could get a new ten year level term insurance policy with the same five hundred thousand dollar payout for around three hundred dollars a year.

The cost of coverage goes up as a person gets older. However, because the premiums on term life insurance have dropped significantly, if the same person wanted to add an additional ten years to the coverage he could now get a brand new twenty year policy for roughly the same amount of money he is paying for his current policy.

Some people are reluctant to buy a term life policy because it will end at some point in time and they will no longer have the coverage. That’s why some people buy whole life policies. However, whole life policies can cost upwards of ten times the amount of a term policies.

But how long do you really need to be covered by insurance?

Realistically, most folks have the greatest need for life insurance when they are younger. At that time in their lives they often have a young family but have not put a significant amount of money into savings.

Usually a person’s assets grow over the course of their life. If that happens, once their children leave home, unless they have a disabled child who could survive them, some people feel that there is often no need to have an insurance policy.

Why Should I Buy Life Insurance Plan?

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

While many people are well versed in the need for insurance coverage when it comes to their automobiles, homes, and health, the topic of life insurance is considerably less popular. Of course, not many people like to think about their own death, let alone plan for it. As a result, the decision to purchase life insurance is often pushed aside as something to be considered down the road. However, a quick review of what you stand to gain from life insurance might be enough to convince you that today is the day to start giving it some serious though.

Ironically, while other kinds of insurance, such as homeowners and auto, are essentially ways to prepare for accidents that may never happen, life insurance covers the one event that is bound to happen to everybody at some point-death. While life insurance may not comfort your loved ones in the event of your death, it can go a long way towards helping them survive without you.

When a loved one passes away, many problems can quickly arise and most of them usually revolve around money. This can include a family losing an income stream, an inability to meet mortgage payments, the costs of a funeral, and any medical bills and other debts left behind. Life insurance can help you prepare for these problems by allowing you to take financial responsibility now rather than letting these issues eventually become a burden to your family.

Do You Need Life Insurance?

It’s generally accepted that if you are a parent, you and any other income-earning adult in your household should have a life insurance policy. At the very least, the policy should feature life insurance coverage that lasts up until any children in the household complete college.

Another way to determine if you need life insurance is to ask yourself if your death would leave any of your loved ones in financial turmoil. For example, will your family be able to survive without your income? Would you be leaving behind a large amount of debt for your family to inherit? Are your loved ones equipped to pay the costs of your funeral and burial? Life insurance is a way to take care of all of these things and more.

However, life insurance isn’t necessarily all about dealing with your death. Even if you don’t have any children, you can still benefit from a good life insurance policy.

Reasons to Buy Life Insurance

If your current life with your significant other is built around both of your incomes, your sudden death could have drastic and lasting repercussions on his or her financial situation. A life insurance policy can offer income replacement coverage. With income replacement, your surviving loved one can be paid the lost income, allowing them to keep their standard of living. This feature alone offers peace mind to couples and families who would otherwise face significant financial woes after the death of a loved one.

Similar to income replacement, mortgage protection is another way that a life insurance policy can protect your significant other or family after your death. You can purchase a life insurance policy that will pay off any outstanding mortgage costs in the event of your death. Mortgage protection can help you rest assured that your loved ones will always have a place to live, no matter what happens to you.

When a person dies, especially if it’s sudden, the last thing their loved ones should have to deal with are the cost and stress of planning their funeral. Many life insurance policies can cover final expenses, such as the cost of a funeral, hearse, casket, burial, cremation, and more. Final expenses can also help cover related medical bills.

Accumulation

Life insurance can even offer you some help when you’re alive. Life insurance is a good tool for both protection and accumulation which makes it relatively unique among kinds of insurance. Some life insurance policies allow you to cash out the accumulated value which can be very useful in an emergency. Some couples choose to use this accumulated value as an additional source of retirement income, and some families utilize it to pay for a child’s education. Some policies even have investment features to help you accumulate even more.

While thinking about your eventual demise might not be on your list of favorite things to do, deciding on a good life insurance policy can be one of the most important decisions you ever make. By taking the time to learn about life insurance now, you’ll gain the peace of mind that comes from knowing that no matter what may happen to you, your family will always have security.

The worker pays an average of either $779 a year for an individual plan or $3,515 a year for a family plan, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. In order to calculate this average, it stands to reason that many workers are paying considerably more than this for their company health coverage.

In order to find the best insurance coverage for the cheapest price, the best thing you can do is get quotes from a number of different health insurance companies. There are non-profit sites that will do this for free if you answer a few questions about your household. After reviewing your answers, they will send a list of state approved companies that have policies that will meet your specific health needs. They, also, include the website and phone number for each company.

The total cost of a family health insurance plan in the United States is $13,500 for a year. Workers only pay a portion of that price. Because of the rise in price, small companies are paying less for insurance, while their workers are paying more. In some cases, it may be smarter for them to purchase their own individual health insurance.

One of the things that affect the validity of saving money on an individual plan instead of a company plan is the area that you live and work in. Folks in the area around New York City would most likely pay more for an individual policy, while workers living in the middle northern states would pay less.

It is important for a worker to consider several benefits that a company plan offers before he decides to change to an individual plan. There are several things that would not be included in an individual plan.

The insurance company that is carried by a private company is obligated to accept every employee for coverage regardless of his health needs. They cannot cancel an employee’s insurance if he becomes ill. The law allows an employee to purchase an 18 month extension on his health insurance if he is laid off.

The company is required by law to waive the waiting period on a new employee if he was covered by insurance in his other job for a longer period than the time of the waiting period. For an example, if an employee worked fifteen months for another company and was covered by their company insurance, and the waiting period at his new job is nine months, then the waiting period is canceled and his entire insurance coverage is effective immediately.

Don’t cancel your company insurance until you are sure that you have been accepted for the individual insurance plan that you applied for. Private insurers have a long list of reasons for refusing coverage, and you may fall within that list. It would not be unusual for a company to deny you coverage.

Comparing policies and quotes from various insurance companies is the wise way to go. Read over the policies, and if there is something you don’t understand, call them and ask about it. This is the only way you will be able to make a knowledgeable decision about buying individual health insurance.

It is not uncommon in the United States for people to have health coverage with their job. However, many Americans do not have that option. The only thing they can do is consider buying individual health insurance. In some cases, having insurance with your job, is not the most cost efficient way to go.

The Kaiser Family Foundation says that the average cost of an individual health plan through the company you work for is $779 for an individual and $3,515 for a family. These prices are a calculated average so it stands to reason that many employees are paying more than that each year.

There is a big difference in price and coverage between insurance agencies, and it pays to look around and get quotes and coverage statements from a number of different health insurance companies before you purchase a policy. Look for non-profit sites that do not charge for their services. You will just need to answer a few questions, click the mouse and wait. They will send you a list of approved companies in your state, their website information and their phone numbers.

Thirteen thousand five hundred dollars is what the average cost for family coverage is per year. The smaller companies, especially, are passing most of that cost on to their employees. Because of that, it might be more cost efficient for a worker to choose a private health plan.

It is a known fact that the price you pay depends on the part of the country you live in. For example, a person who lives in the center portion of the United States might find that it is cheaper to purchase his own health insurance and forego the insurance on his job. On the other hand, a worker in New York City would be more likely to pay less for the insurance on his job than he would with a private policy.

Choosing to purchase an individual plan instead of using the health coverage your job offers is a serious decision and needs to be given considerable thought. There are a number of things that company insurance offers that individual plans do not.

All employees, regardless of health problems they may have, are accepted under their job health insurance, and it cannot be canceled in case of a serious illness. It gives the employee the possibility of purchasing extended health coverage for up to eighteen months if he is laid off his job.

The length of time a worker was covered by health insurance in his previous job carries over into his new job and affects the waiting period for health coverage. For example, if a person worked ten months at his previous job, and the insurance at his new job requires a six month waiting period, that period is waived, and his new work insurance takes effect immediately.

Never cancel your job insurance until you know for sure that the new company has decided to insure you. Insurance companies have a number of reasons for refusing insurance to individuals and families. By waiting, your health needs will continue to be covered.

The smartest thing a person can do is to get quotes from different insurance policies and see what the policy covers. Ask questions if any part of the policy is not clear. This will give you the opportunity to make the best possible decision concerning buying individual health insurance.

A Look At Buying Individual Health Insurance

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

Many people have insurance with the company that they work for, but there are a large number of Americans whose only option is buying individual health insurance. Even companies are beginning to pass a large portion of the cost of insurance on to their employees.

According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation report, the average amount a worker pays for an individual health plan is $779. A family plan costs an average of $3,515. Since these prices are an average, it is obvious that many workers are paying even more.

There are non-profit sites that ask you approximately five questions about your family and then give you a list of the companies in your state that have plans that will meet your or your family’s health needs. The list normally includes the websites and phone numbers for each company.

In the United States, the average cost of a family program is $13,500 a year. Most smaller companies pay less than half of that cost for their employees. A worker in that situation may be able to save a considerable amount of money each year by purchasing his own health insurance plan.

The cost of health coverage depends on what part of the country the person lives in. For example, a person who lives in or near New York City will most likely not be able to find an individual plan that is less expensive than his company plan. If that same person lives in the state of Ohio, he might be able save several hundred dollars a month on an individual plan.

Before a person considers changing from a company health plan to a private health plan there are several things that his company plan offers that he should consider. An individual plan will not include any of these items.

In a company plan, you and all of your co-workers must be accepted for insurance coverage regardless of any health problems you may have. Your health insurance cannot be canceled if you become sick. If the worker is laid off his job, according to law, he has the option of purchasing an extension on his health insurance from the company for at least eighteen months.

If the person had insurance at a previous job, the new company has to reduce the waiting period for any current health problem according to the time the person worked at his other company. For example, if the waiting period is six month and he worked twelve months at his last job, he would be covered immediately under his new job policy.

If you decide to switch from your company’s health insurance to a private insurance plan, do not cancel your company insurance until you are certain that you have been accepted by the new company. Private insurers are very particular about previous health problems and waiting periods. It is not uncommon for them to refuse to insure an individual for a number of reasons.

As with any type of insurance, comparing different companies and the policies that they offer is the smartest thing to do. Make sure you understand exactly what the policy covers and what it doesn’t cover. By doing these two things, you will be able to make the best decision concerning your family’s health needs.

Van Insurance – Protecting Yourself And Your Business

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

Operating a company vehicle means a completely different approach to insurance. For van drivers, a van insurance policy that protects themselves, their vehicle and their business means searching for specialist insurers who understand the specific needs of van drivers.

The definition of van insurance.
Like any other road-going vehicle, you need insurance to be able to operate your van on the highways of the UK. The first thing to remember is that van insurance is specifically designed to insure vehicles that are designed to carry goods and less than four passengers. Some van insurance companies also specify the van’s weight capacity (sometimes no more than 3.5 tones GVW) or may exclude what are known as ‘lifestyle’ vehicles that can also double up as utility or leisure vehicles. So the first thing to look for is a van insurance provider who will cover your vehicle.

Van insurance also may have more restrictions on who can drive the vehicle, such as only the insured driver or drivers who are over the age of 21. So if you have a young driver on your fleet, it may be worth looking for an insurance provider who will cater for drivers under 21. Also remember that van insurance has some fairly strict definitions as to what the van can be used for. If you also use your van for private use such as commuting to and from your place of work or for personal use outside working hours, you will need to make sure that your van insurance policy also allows you to use the vehicle for social, domestic and pleasure use. If it doesn’t have this addition and you have an accident outside your normal working routine, your insurance may not cover you for damage to either your own vehicle or to a third party.

What about my tools?
One of the biggest worries for drivers looking for van insurance is whether their tools will also be covered in the event of the theft of the vehicle, for example. Many van insurance providers do not cover the contents of a vehicle, particularly if your trade is classified as ‘manual’, so you may need to consider separate insurance to protect your tools. Some insurers are now including contents insurance on vans, so it’s worth checking around to find a deal that has this as an optional extra. Be prepared to pay more, though, for your overall van insurance if you do include this.

Because of the high mileage that van drivers do in the course of their business, there is more chance statistically of being involved in some kind of road traffic incident. This is why van insurance is usually comprehensive, and costs a little more than an average car insurance policy. There are also often restrictions as to what type of business you can use the van for. Commonly, industries such as entertainment are excluded from van insurance policies, so it pays to check the small print, otherwise you could find that your occupation negates your insurance policy and you are, in fact, driving while uninsured. This is a criminal offence and could result in a hefty fine or even the van being impounded by the Police.

Finally, as with the vast majority of motor insurance policies, the better your vehicle security arrangements, the lower your premium. For van drivers, garaging a vehicle may be impractical or even impossible. To reduce your van insurance premiums, it may be a good idea to fit your company vehicles with a tracking device. Insurers consider this to be an excellent deterrent to thieves, and consequently reward drivers who have their vehicles ‘low-jacked’ or fitted with tracking devices. It also enables you to know exactly where your van is at all times, and can help the Police to recover your vehicle much more quickly in the event of it being stolen.

How Health Savings Accounts Help Consumers Avoid Questionable Health Insurance

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

With the recent increase in advertisements for cheap and low-cost health solutions, many consumers are becoming increasingly skeptical of the veracity of some health insurance advertisements. Those consumers may be wise, says the Idaho Department of Insurance – the state regulatory authority for the Idaho insurance industry. However, if consumers need lower-cost health plans, they should look into opening Health Savings Accounts that come with low-cost high deductible health plans.

According to a press release issued late January from the Idaho Department of Insurance, consumers should beware of television and print advertisements for low, affordable health insurance. Those ads, the organization says, may not provide consumers with enough information about health policies, prices, and alternative health opportunities.

“Be sure you understand the details of any plan you may be considering before you make a purchase,” says Department Director Bill Deal. “Consider the current or future medical needs you or your family may have. Coverage and deductible options differ widely from plan to plan.”

Deal wants to make sure that consumers understand that “bare bones” health plans that cover very specific health care expenses may have stifling limitations on what health care services and products are covered by the plans. These limitations, says Deal, may be far greater than limitations associated with more comprehensive health insurance plans. However, many qualifying Health Account plans may come with high deductibles, but they may also cover regular check-ups and provide lower cost prescription medications.

“Limited benefit health plans are not intended to replace but to supplement other plans,” the organization said in its press release. “Coverage is restricted to fewer types of medical expenses and has higher co-insurance percentages, higher co-pays and higher deductibles.”

Moreover, the organization wants consumers to be aware that some low cost “High deductible health plans only cover catastrophic health care costs. Consumers pay much more of the up-front cost before the policy pays any benefits for eligible medical expenses.” Again, high deductible Health Savings Account qualifying plans may help to provide solutions to many of the problems associated with other high deductible health insurance plans.

One of the best ways that consumers can ensure that they are getting a health insurance plan that suits their specific needs and budget is to work with a health insurance agent. A health agent will learn about a consumer’s lifestyle, health needs, family needs, financial situation, and other concerns, then match the consumer with the most appropriate health insurance policies for his or her needs. These health insurance policies may include comprehensive health insurance plans, but they may also include low cost high-deductible health insurance plans that come coupled with Health Savings Accounts.

Consumers should also be sure to revisit their health insurance policies annually to ensure that their current policies are congruent with their current health care needs and budgets. Health insurance companies revise their plan offerings and options regularly, which means that consumers may be able to get more appropriate health insurance plans this year than they could last year. Health insurance companies have also adapted many of their plans to meet the needs of consumers who are navigating the current economic situation and who may be affected by health care legislation.

The Idaho Department of Insurance also urges consumers to contact their state insurance departments to ensure that the health insurance company and agent with whom they are dealing are licensed in their state.

Obtain Car Insurance Plan Online Right Now

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

Have you ever made a decision to be organized and get points done before they fall due? Auto insurance policy is one thing that I dread paying and so seem to be to put it off till the last feasible few days. This can be one seriously costly procrastination on my part.

Obtaining car insurance plan on the internet currently implies that you don’t ought to spend time sitting within the end of a phone for twenty minutes listening to several sweetly detached voice telling you ‘how crucial your phone is always to us’ after which it producing you wait a bit more. If you get oneself organized, you’ll be able to visit one website and get two, 3 or a lot more quotes on-line. All done at the push of a mouse. Believe me, there is nothing ‘ratty’ about purchasing for car insurance plan online currently.

If you are like a handful of persons I know, we would like to acquire keep of their phone organization and donate a very few additional pieces of music to their collection for their clients to pick out from. OK, “green sleeves” is much better than some and I know that everyone has different musical tastes but as long as they want to acquire actually ‘caring’ for their clients, maybe they could give us a variety of music to choose from, if we are likely to be hanging on to a phone for that next fifteen or twenty minutes. But do not keep coming interrupting a piece of boring music to tell me that ‘my phone is critical to us’ simply because you\’re most likely stopping me from falling asleep.

The music they play for us to supposedly keep us calm is so calming it is soporific and I can’t help my eyes glazing over and closing. So please do not interrupt my slumber till you\’re actually ready to deal with my problem/needs. It is just yet another indication of how little you really care for my well-being.

Another factor that ‘gets on my goat’ (as my Dad would have said) is why do we ought to push all those buttons for this that or another program when they all sound as whenever they might be the correct department?

I’m quite happy to physical exercise my fingers as soon as or twice but when I have to drill lower 3 or four levels, my concentration is leaving me and I often have got to replay the directions again to see in which I ought to go following. This IQ testing need to not must be part of buying car insurance plan. Or is this just an additional sneaky insurance plan trick to see if we possess a concentration deficit? If we safely navigate our way towards the sixth level does that mean we get a low cost rate due to the fact we are alert persons?

Can you imagine how difficult it ought to be today for an older individual in their seventies say, who isn’t personal computer or phone savvy and they have to deal with three or 4 layers of four or five options one right after the other? Use a heart folks, these men and women just wish to do the suitable factor and purchase several car insurance policies for the phone so they might drive lower to the shops each and every week with confidence. By generating these clients go via all these hurdles undoubtedly tests their mental capacity in the extremely impolite approach. I have generally thought that there need to just be one button produced accessible on the beginning from the phone for men and women to speak to an operator if they would like.

What is Mortgage Life Insurance Coverage?

Saturday, 13 March, 2010

mortgage life insurance (also known as mortgage life assurance) is a standard life insurance policy adapted to cover mortgage loans. Borrowing to buy a house provides a huge financial liability to all but the wealthiest of individuals. It is often stated that mortgage life insurance is a form of mortgage protection but in reality it is more accurate to view it as a form of family protection, after all mortgages are material whereas families are not.

In this light, mortgage life insurance provides family financial security. If one partner were to pass away it is unlikely that the other partner would be able to maintain the mortgage loan payments and thus continue to live in the family home. Mortgage life insurance pays out a (usually) tax free lump sum upon the death of the policyholder. The funds from this payout can then be used to pay off the mortgage loan in its entirety (as long as the level of cover taken out equals the amount outstanding on the loan).

As mentioned previously, mortgage life insurance is adapted from simple life insurance. In fact, level term life insurance (which is used to cover an interest only mortgage loan) is exactly the same as standard life insurance. Level term insurance is used to cover an interest only home loan because the level of cover remains content just the same as the amount of debt outstanding (i.e. it is no different from basic life insurance except that the payout is destined for mortgage repayment).

To cover a principal repayment mortgage loan decreasing term life insurance would be most appropriate. Decreasing term insurance is an adaptation of basic or standard life insurance. It provides all of the usual traits of life insurance except that the level of cover declines over the term of the policy. This ‘decreasing’ amount of cover is supposed to mirror the amount of mortgage debt outstanding as it falls over the repayment years, eventually reaching zero as the loan is repaid. Naturally, as the amount of cover declines over time decreasing term life insurance is less expensive than level term life insurance.

There are no stipulations that the amount of cover taken out with mortgage life insurance has to equal the amount outstanding on the mortgage loan. It may be the case that additional cover is desired to provide further family protection. On the other hand, it may be the case that the family has a large amount of savings so only a fraction of the full cover is required to top up those existing savings to the full mortgage level. In either case, life insurance is a flexible policy that can be adapted to the specific requirements of the policyholder(s).

It is possible to take out joint mortgage life insurance if a joint mortgage is in existence. In this case the policy would payout upon first death of either policyholder. This would leave the remaining policyholder with the finances to pay off the loan in full. It is also possible to add critical illness cover to mortgage life insurance, which would cover the loan should the policyholder suffer a critical illness.
